Arab parties signal support for Eisenkot government formation

Yashar Party pledges backing without deal while Joint List abstains from opposition efforts.

Arab parties signal support for Eisenkot government formation

Gadi Eisenkot is set to form the next Israeli government following recommendations from Arab political factions. The Yashar Party leader received formal backing that brings his potential coalition tally to 67 seats in the Knesset.

A source from the Yashar Party stated that their eight members would support an Eisenkot administration even if no formal coalition agreement is signed. This declaration provides a critical foundation for the former military chief.

The Arab Joint List formally recommended Eisenkot to form the government. This move significantly bolstered his position as he seeks to assemble a working majority in the Israeli parliament without traditional right-wing partners.

The Joint List, headed by Yousef Jabareen, clarified its stance regarding the prospective administration. The party indicated it would not vote in favor of the government without a signed agreement between the parties.

However, the Joint List also stated it would not work to bring down an Eisenkot-led government. This nuanced position allows for stability while maintaining pressure for formal political commitments from the incoming leadership.

Mansour Abbas of the United Arab List previously addressed the political situation. He stated his faction would act in accordance with the will of the Arab public to change the current government.

Abbas specifically referenced the desire to replace the administration of Benjamin Netanyahu. His comments align with the broader trend of Arab parties seeking to facilitate a transition of power in Israel.

President Isaac Herzog announced he would task Eisenkot with forming the next government. This decision follows the parliamentary recommendations and sets the stage for the next phase of political negotiations.
